What’s the Spatial Edge all about?
The Spatial Edge is a weekly blog that covers geospatial data science and economics.
It’s read by folks from NASA, ESA, Google, World Bank, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford, LSE, and so on.
Every week, I review research papers, compile datasets, and share updates on exciting geospatial data science applications.
From time to time, I’ll go deep on geospatial topics, like nightlights, local government corruption, and spatial inequality. Plus, I’ll provide tutorials and guides on working with geospatial data.
In short, I’m sharing the resources I wish I had five years ago.
My goal is to help you stay informed about geospatial data science, conduct better research, and commercialize your work.

About me
I’m Yohan, I’m an economist and geospatial data scientist.
I currently work for ADB, and have previously worked for the World Bank in Vietnam and France.
Prior to that, I founded and ran two geospatial data science companies: LanterneAI, which predicts demand for mobility companies, and 505 Economics, which created socio-economic datasets for clients like McKinsey & Co. Both companies were incubated by the European Space Agency.
I have a PhD in Economic Geography from the London School of Economics.
I’ve also worked as an economist for the Institute for State Effectiveness in Afghanistan and Puerto Rico, and for the Australian government.
Disclaimer: The topics in this blog do not reflect any ADB activities or political questions. Nothing in this blog should be taken as being representative of ADB’s views.
